Gerhard Gnauck, PhD, born 1964 in Warsaw (Warszawa). Studied history, political science and Slavic philology. From 1999 to 2018 worked as a correspondent for Poland/Ukraine/Baltic states with DIE WELT, since 2018 with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung FAZ. Author of books: on Warsaw, on the Polish-Jewish-German "pope of literature" Marcel Reich-Ranicki, on Poland's recent history and present situation ("Polen verstehen", Klett-Cotta, Stuttgart 2018). He understands Ukrainian, speaks Russian.
