Head of Department for Easter Europe and Central Asia , MInistry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden
Andreas von BECKERATH was appointed as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Department for Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs in September 2017, where he has been working since 1999. Prior to his most recent appointment, he was the acting Head of the Department for Conflict and Humanitarian Affairs. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine. Andreas von Beckerath’s previous posts include Deputy Head of the Embassy of Sweden in London in 2010-2013, Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Sweden in Berlin in 2006-2010. From 2002 to 2006 he was the European Correspondent at the Swedish MFA, and prior to that he worked at the Embassy of Sweden in Moscow in 2002, Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN in 2001, and the Embassy of Sweden in Bucharest in 2000-2001. Prior to joining the MFA, Andreas von Beckerath worked at the Swedish investment company Incentive and at the language company EF English First in Moscow.
