Bate C. TOMS is the Managing Partner of the law firm B.C. Toms & Co, which for over 28 years has handled many of the largest investment and acquisition transactions in Ukraine, including transactions for energy and agriculture. Mr. Toms managed some of the largest IPO’s for Ukrainian companies, and the first successful foreign bank-led (EBRD) Ukrainian project financing many of the largest real estate acquisitions, oil, gas and green energy projects. He has successfully handled many important Ukrainian arbitrations and court proceedings, including the largest bilateral treaty arbitration concerning Ukraine at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague. He has also written numerous articles and books on Ukrainian law. He is the Ukrainian editor for the International Financial Law Review (IFLR) and the International Energy Law Review (IELR), and the Chairman of the British-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Toms studied at Washington and Lee University (B.A., magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa); Cambridge University (Magdalene College - Law Tripos I), Yale Graduate School (MS) and Yale Law School (JD, editor of the Yale Law Journal). He also studied Soviet Studies at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Science Po). He is a member of the D.C., Virginia, and Paris, France, bars.
