Mayor , Hlukhiv City Council
Michel TERESTCHENKO is the Mayor of Hlukhiv City, who was raised in France and was a Frenchman for his first 60 years. After the Revolution for Dignity, he requested for Ukrainian citizenship. He wanted to help the city of Hlukhiv with a population of 35,000, the homeland of his Ukrainian family before 1917, to develop new European perspectives. In March 2015, the President granted him Ukrainian citizenship, and in October 2015, the people of Hlukhiv elected him as their Mayor with 66% of the votes. Since then, he has faithfully worked to serve them with his fantastic team of dedicated people from Hlukhiv who assist Mr. Terestchenko with all daily business and tough legal issues. The President of Ukraine in November 2015 promised to help the city to resolve its local issues but he has not fulfilled his promise. The people of Hlukhiv are determined to show that in North East corner of Ukraine, ten kilometers from the Russian border, a small city without assistance from the Presidential Administration's decentralization reform could live proudly by implementing rules of democracy, transparency in the public service, and leading a fight against corruption.
