Member of Parliament of Ukraine
Olena SOTNYK is Ukrainian lawyer and politician, Member of Parliament with Samopomich (“Self-Reliance”) Union Party. She serves as Secretary of the Committee on the Issues of European Integration, and Head of the Subcommittee on Approximation of Ukrainian Legislation to EU Law. Ms. Sotnyk holds membership in the lawyers’ group aimed at protecting the rights of the “Heavenly Hundred”, and in the Center for the Free Legal Aid, dedicated to the victims of shootings at the Independence Square in Kyiv. As a civic activist, she has coordinated a range of projects to defend children’s rights. Additionally, Ms. Sotnyk is a Member of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representing the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy, Sub-Committee on External Relations, and Sub-Committee on the Implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. In addition, she serves as Vice-Chairperson of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe. Her main fields of expertise in the Parliament of Ukraine include reforms of judiciary, police, security service and anti-corruption reform, harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the EU law to ensure its compliance with the obligations of Ukraine to the Council of Europe. Ms. Sotnyk is also a member of the Executive Committee of the National Parliamentary Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
