Smolii Yakiv

Yakiv SMOLII is the head of the National Bank of Ukraine since March 2018. Prior to this position, he worked as an Acting Governor on National Bank of Ukraine (2017-2018), and the First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (2016-2017). Yakiv Smolii has worked in Ukraine’s banking sector for more than 25 years, since its establishment after the country gained independence. He started his banking career in 1991 with the National Bank of Ukraine's Regional Branch in Ternopil oblast. Until 2005, he served as deputy chairman of the Board at JS Postal Pension Bank Aval. From 2005 until 2014, Yakiv Smolii served as director of banking business at Prestige-Group. Yakiv Smolii holds a degree in Applied Mathematics from the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He also holds PhD in Economics.
