Taras SHEVCHENKO is the founder and the director of Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law (former – Media Law Institute) of Kyiv since 2005. It is a think tank, which focuses on independent media development, anti-corruption actions, and civic initiatives’ support. CEDEM’s mission is to encourage development of the society of active and responsible citizens. The main activities of anti-corruption area are Lab of Active Citizens, Ombudsman Plus and Initiative11. Mr. Shevchenko is also Board Co-chairman for Reanimation Package of Reforms (RPR) – leading Ukrainian NGO coalition, which is a post-Maidan civic initiative uniting 68 Ukrainian NGOs that successfully advocates reforms in Ukraine. Since March 2014, Mr. Shevchenko is an expert of Group on Reform of Judiciary, which is one of the key groups of the RPR, the main goal of which is justice, fairness, and independence to become the key values for the reformed judiciary. Mr. Shevchenko is a co-initiator of CHESNO Civic Movement, an independent initiative founded in 2011 by active civic society participants, aiming to improve the quality of Ukrainian politics. He took the leading role in starting a new campaign “CHESNO. Filter the Judiciary” in June 2016.
