Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine
Ernst REICHEL is the German Ambassador to Ukraine who has been in the post since August 2016. He joined the German Foreign Service in 1988 and since then has held numerous high ranking positions. His first assignment abroad took him to Leningrad, now St. Petersburg in 1990. From 1992 to 1996, he occupied the position of a political desk officer for Russia. From 1996 on, he served for three years at the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York. Following this, he worked in the International Law Division of the German Foreign Office. From 2000 to 2003, he was the Deputy Head of Division for EU Policy and Institutional Issues. Then he served as the Deputy Director in the Private Office of the NATO Secretary General. From 2007 onward, he headed the Division for Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Eastern Partnership in the German Foreign Office. In 2011, he became Ambassador in Pristina, Kosovo. In 2013, he was assigned the post of Special Envoy for South Eastern Europe, Turkey, and the EFTA states. He studied law at the University of Bonn (Doctorate). He was born in 1960 in Lagos, Nigeria.
