Member of Parliament of Ukraine
Leonid IEMETS is a Member of Parliament of Ukraine representing electoral district 221. He was first elected in 2012 and reelected in 2014. In the parliament, he is the First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Legal Policy and Justice, a member of the Permanent Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a member of the European People's Party, a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, and the Vice-Chairperson on the Sub-Committee on the implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. Additionally, Mr. Iemets is a co-author and active lobbyist of the Laws of Ukraine on lustration, judicial reform, and "On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine." During the Revolution of Dignity in 2014, Mr. Iemets was responsible for legal support for activists of Euro- and Auto- Maidans. In 2006, he was elected as a member of Pechersk district council of Kiev, where he headed the Our Ukraine party. He was also one of the commandants of the Orange Revolution in 2004. Mr. Iemets graduated with a degree in Law from the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in 2001. He defended his thesis on "Public control of non-political associations of citizens - administrative and legal research" and received a doctorate in Law.
