Professor , Kyiv Mohyla Academy
Olexiy HARAN is a Professor at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Since 2015, he has been the Research Director at Democratic Initiatives Foundation, one of the eldest Ukrainian think tanks that analyses public policies, researches the main trends in public opinions, and holds educational seminars. Professor Haran is a member of the Council on National Unity under President of Ukraine and a member of the Washington-based Program on New Approaches to Research and Security (PONARS-Eurasia). During the winter of 2013-2014, he was a member of the Council of Maidan Movement. As a political scientist, he spent several weeks at the frontline in Mariupol, Luhansk, and Donetsk airport. Professor Haran is the editor of Constructing Political Nation: Changes in the Attitudes of Ukrainians during the War in the Donbas (2017), Ukraine in Europe: Questions and Answers (2009), and Russia and Ukraine: Ten Years of Transformation (Moscow 2003). His comments frequently appear in international media. In 1991 - 1994, he was the Dean and organizer of the Faculty of Social Sciences at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Professor Haran holds a doctorate degree in Contemporary History, a master's degree in International Relations, and a bachelor's degree from Kyiv University.
