Graf Lambsdorff Alexander

Alexander Graf LAMBSDORFF is a Deputy Leader for International Affairs of the liberal group (FDP) in the German Bundestag. He is responsible for foreign policy, defense, and security, European affairs as well as development and human rights. From 2004 to 2017, he served as a Member of the European Parliament and was elected its Vice-President for democracy and human rights in 2014. Prior, he served as deputy leader of the liberal group (ALDE). Mr. Lambsdorff was a member of the EP’s Committees for Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and the Single Market. He focused on EU enlargement, transatlantic relations, Russia, Turkey as well as the United Nations. He continues to be deeply involved in democracy support policies, having led EU Election Observation missions to several countries in Asia and Africa and serving as the founding chairman of the European Endowment for Democracy. As a member of the Committee for the Single Market, he actively worked on policies shaping the markets for chemicals, services, and security-related products. On the Trade Committee, he oversaw the ratification of the EPA with Southern Africa and was actively involved in the debates on TTIP and CETA. Mr. Lambsdorff holds advanced degrees in History and International Relations from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In 1995, he joined the German Foreign Service and served on the Policy Planning Staff, at the German Embassy in Washington D.C. and on the Political Department’s Russia desk before leaving the Foreign Service for the 2004 European election campaign. Mr. Lambsdorff was born in Cologne, Germany in 1966 and has two grown children. He lives in Bonn and Berlin.
