Member of European Parliament
Petras AUŜTREVIČIUS is a Lithuanian politician, diplomat, civil society activist. Since 2014, he has been a member of the European Parliament where he serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), acts as a coordinator for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI), and is the Chair of the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan. In addition to these positions, he is a Vice-chair of ALDE political group, a substitute member for the Committee on Regional Development (REGI), the Delegation to the EU-Moldova Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. For ten years, Mr. Auštrevičius was a member of the Seimas (Lithuanian Parliament), and during last year of his service, he served as the Deputy Speaker. From 2001 to 2002, Mr. Auštrevičius was the Chief Negotiator for Lithuania’s membership to the European Union.
