
He joined the Federal Foreign Office in 2002. He was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Managua from 2005 to 2008 and Counsellor for External Relations at the Permanent Mission to the European Union in Brussels from 2008 to 2011. He returned to the headquarters in Berlin, worked in the planning staff from 2011 to 2013 and then as personal assistant to Federal Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier until 2017. He then headed the Office of State Secretaries from 2017 to 2020 until he became Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in July 2020 with the official title of Ambassador.
