Yaroslav Hrytsak was born on 1 January 1960 in the village of Dovhe (Lviv region). Graduated from the Faculty of History of Lviv Ivan Franko National University. Yaroslav Hrytsak is the author of numerous works on modern history of Ukraine. He is a professor of the Ukrainian Catholic University, founder and director of the Jewish studies program. Professor honoris causa of the NaUKMA, director of the Institute of Strategic Research of Lviv Ivan Franko National University. Founder and chief editor of the scientific yearly almanac Ukraina Moderna, editorial board member of the journals such as Ab Imperio, Judaica Ukrainica, Krytyka, Ukrainian Humanitarian Review, Slavic Review. Supervisory board member of the Harvard Ukrainian Studies journal.
