Brigadier General Joachim Kaschke is head of the Steering Staff and Special Staff on Ukraine within the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Defence. He thus holds a key position in German policy regarding Ukraine. Brigadier Kaschke joined the Air Force in 1994; following officer training and university studies in aerospace engineering, he qualified as a jet pilot. In this capacity, he held all the standard pilot positions, culminating in his role as Wing Commander of Tactical Air Force Wing 73 "Steinhoff" in Laage. Additionally, he underwent training as a General Staff officer and held various staff positions within the Air Force and the Federal Ministry of Defence. Prior to his current assignment, he served as adjutant to Defence Minister Pistorius. He also served abroad as Commander of German Forces in the Middle East.
