Oleh Apostol is a Major General, Commander of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a Hero of Ukraine. He was born on 17 April 1987. He received his military education at the Odesa Military Institute and the Lviv Military Institute. In 2018, he completed operational-level studies at the National Defence University of Ukraine. During his military career, he has held command positions ranging from platoon and company commander to battalion commander. In 2022, he served as Deputy Commander of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, and from 2022 to 2024 he commanded the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade. In 2024–2025, he served as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since June 2025, he has served as Commander of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He has extensive combat experience, having taken part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and the Joint Forces Operation from 2014 to 2022, and, since 2022, in Ukraine’s defence against Russia’s full-scale aggression. He has been awarded all three classes of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, the Presidential Cross of Military Merit, a number of distinctions from the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Order for Courage, 3rd Class. In 2024, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Gold Star.
