Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine , Minister of Justice of Ukraine
Olha Stefanishyna is a Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of of Ukraine - Minister of Justice of Ukraine since September 2024. In the Government, Olha Stefanishyna is in charge of Ukraine’s integration to the EU and NATO, as well as ensuring the formation and implementation of legal policy and setting priorities of activity of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. She is a current member of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Olha Stefsnishyna is also a Head of the Governmental Commission for Coordination of Interaction of Executive Authorities on Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men. Upon her appointment, she initiated an update of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine. Since Ukraine's application for EU membership on February 28, 2022, Olha Stefanishyna has been in charge of coordinating the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU. Under the coordination of the DPM, the questionnaires necessary for granting Ukraine the status of a candidate country for EU membership were processed and submitted to the European Commission. Under the coordination of the DPM, an initial assessment of the progress in the implementation of the European Union legal acts (EU acquis) was conducted. Ukraine is the first country to conduct self-screening prior to the official screening by the European Commission. Olga Stefanishyna is also the Head of the Commission for Coordination of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic Integration. Under her coordination, a draft of the adapted Annual National Program (ANP) for 2024 was developed and approved for submission to NATO. Under her leadership, Ukraine adopted its second National Action Plan to implement the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. In 2022 was awarded the “Women for Peace and Security” Award by NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, DPM initiated a deepening of cooperation with the UN to provide comprehensive assistance for people affected by war-related violence. Together with the UN Special Representative for the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflicts, Pramila Patten, in May 2022, they signed the Framework Program of Cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the UN to prevent and respond to war-related sexual violence. Within the implementation of the Framework Agreement,the Deputy Prime Minister has initiated the creation of Survivor Relief Centers all across Ukraine and Survivor Relief Platform for comprehensive assistance to survivors of war-related violence. She is also the coordinator of the Gender Mainstreaming and Inclusion in Recovery Platform for the comprehensive coordination of state authorities, civil society and international partners efforts in the issue of gender-balanced and equal recovery process. DPM Stefanishyna has over 15 years of professional experience in the field of International and European Law. She used to work in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, served as a Director-General in the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, and used to practice a private legal practice. Olha has a Master's Degree in International law and a Diploma in economics, studied at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and at the Estonian School of Diplomacy. The Deputy Prime Minister is a frequent commentator in the international media. Olga Stefanishyna is a member of the Political Council of the party ‘Servant of the People’. In 2022, she received the Liberal Award from the European Liberal Forum. In December 2023, she was awarded the Order of Merit III degree for her significant personal contribution to the development of interstate cooperation, fruitful diplomatic activity and high professionalism. Also in 2023, she received the Aspen Institute Kyiv Award for the development of a culture of dialogue.
