Major General Dr Christian Freuding joined the Bundeswehr in 1990. His professional military education includes a doctorate in political science and the successful completion of the German and British General Staff Course. During his 34 years of service he served in numerous command and staff assignments from company to brigade level and deployed multiple times to missions in the Balkans and Afghanistan. Most recently he was the commander of the Panzerlehrbrigade 9. Major General Dr Freuding has assumed various tasks in the Ministry of Defence. Among other things, he served as the senior military aide to the Federal Minister of Defence Dr von der Leyen. Since June 2023, Major General Dr Freuding has been the Director of the Joint Planning and Command Staff at the Ministry of Defence which also incooperates the Special Staff for Ukraine. He is married and has two children.
