Yaroslav Hrytsak is Ukrainian historian and public intellectual. He is professor at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv, Ukraine) where he is director of Petro Jacyk Program for the Study of Modern Ukrainian History and Society. He also taught at the Columbia, Harvard and Central European Universities. Hrytsak is founding editor of international peer-review journal “Ukraina Moderna” and author of numerous publications on modern history of Ukraine including Essays in Modern Ukrainian history (Kyiv, 1996, 2001, 2019) Prophet in his Native Land: Ivan Franko and His Community (Kyiv, 2006; English translation in 2011). In 2014-2022, he served as a co-director of the German-Ukrainian Historical Commission. In 2000-2010s, Hrytsak has been listed several times among the top 100 most influential Ukrainians and has various Ukrainian and foreign awards. His most recent publication is Global History of Ukraine. Published in November 2021, it became an instant bestseller. Since then, it underwent 7 Ukrainian editions and has been translated in Italian, Polish and English; Croatian, German and Korean translations are underway.
