Nataliya Bugayova is a non-resident Russia Fellow at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), where she previously led the Russia and Ukraine research team. Her work focuses on open-source intelligence analysis of the Kremlin’s decision-making and Russia's military and information operations, and the ongoing global campaigns — including in the former Soviet Union and Africa. She is the author of “How We Got Here with Russia: The Kremlin’s Worldview,” “Putin's Offset: The Kremlin's Geopolitical Adaptations Since 2014,” and the “Kremlin’s Campaign in Africa: Assessment.” Her work has been featured in media outlets including CNN, BBC, NBC News, Washington Post, Foreign Policy, and others. She regularly briefs military and civilian decision makers on the Kremlin’s global campaigns. In her day job, Nataliya serves as Director of Strategic Insights at Vertical Knowledge—a global collections platform for public data. Prior to ISW, she was the Chief Executive Officer of the Kyiv Post in 2014-2015. She also served as Chief of Staff and Adviser on cooperation with international financial institutions to former Ukrainian Economy Minister Pavlo Sheremeta after the Euromaidan Revolution in 2014. She holds a Master's in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and BA from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. She is an International Strategy Forum fellow at Schmidt Futures – an initiative that brings together foreign policy leaders and technologists. Nataliya is originally from Severodonetsk, Ukraine.
