Pavlo KLIMKIN

Pavlo Klimkin is Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine since June 2014. Mr. Klimkin has served in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry for over 20 years. From 2012 to 2014, he served as the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany; from 2010 to 2012, as Deputy Foreign Minister and Chief of Staff; from 2008 to 2010 as Director of the EU Department and from 2004 to 2008 – as Minister-Counselor of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United Kingdom.
Earlier in his career, Pavlo Klimkin worked in the Department for Economic Cooperation as first secretary and counselor (2000 – 2002) and in the Department for European Integration as Head of the Division for Economic and Sectoral Cooperation with the EU (2002 – 2004). From 1997 to 2000, he addressed political, scientific and technical issues as third and second secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany. He also served as an attaché, third and second secretary and Directorate-General for Arms Control and Disarmament prior to 1997.
After completing a Master’s in Physics and Mathematics at the Department of Aerophysics and Space Research of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1991), Pavlo Klimkin was a research officer at the Paton Welding Institute of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. Pavlo Klimkin is fluent in English and German.
