The modern world is to rethink the notion of development – Victor Pinchuk

The modern world is to rethink the notion of development – Victor Pinchuk

Now more than ever, an individual, a country and the global community should be prompt, strong and clever to effectively face global challenges arising in all areas and being multiplied at the new qualitative level, stated Victor Pinchuk, YES founder and Board Member, Ukrainian businessman and public figure at the opening the 8th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy.

“We are to rethink the global order we know”, he emphasized. “The European Union experiences big tension. The Arab world is changing drastically and we don’t quite understand where the change is oriented. The American economic model is being revised. China and India have been rapidly growing, however, are their growth models sustainable? Environmental and manmade disasters endanger our conventional lifestyle. And modern communication technologies accelerate the speed of the changes.”

All these challenges, Victor Pinchuk mentioned, make impact on all of us at the global and national levels. And a response to them is also identical for all levels: “If you want to be strong and dynamic, you are to develop very dynamically in the dynamic time of changes.”

According to Victor Pinchuk, the notion of a “tiger country” is to be rethought. “Today we are to nurture a new generation of “tiger countries”, which are not only fast and strong, but also cunning like foxes and wise like snakes”, he said, adding he hopes Ukraine, experiencing considerable influence of the global challenges and its domestic situation, is capable and should become such new generation  “tiger”.

The 8th Yalta Annual Meeting entitled “Ukraine and the World: Common Challenges, Common Future”, organized by the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, will take place in Livadia Palace, Ukraine from 15th to 18th of  September 2011.
