13 September 2022

The Ukrainian government will stimulate the development of small and medium business to engage as many Ukrainians in entrepreneurship as possible, Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Yulia Svyrydenko, has said at the 17th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting "Ukraine: Defending All Our Freedom", organised by by YES in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

“We want to make the work of small and medium businesses more active and increase their share in our GDP output respectively to engage as many Ukrainians as possible in entrepreneurship. This is going to be our new national idea. Our government has launched a never seen before programme of incentives for starting up own businesses,” Svyrydenko said.

She also said the government successfully performs deregulation under the conditions of war simplifying the terms for doing business, canceling licenses for those types of businesses where possible.

“It is time to stop pretending that we can control every step an entrepreneur makes in this country. This absolutely does not help people. This only creates additional corruption. So this is an important step in our economic strategy,” Svyrydenko said.

She also said the Ukrainian government also reforms the judicial branch to reduce the risks for investors doing business in Ukraine.

“Our army’s success has shown we have the right to dream. We are certain that the economy will be able to demonstrate huge growth over the next decade. All necessary steps are already being taken by the parliament to reach ambitious goals crucially important to ensure GDP annual growth at least 7%,” Svyrydenko said.
