Ukraine’s goal is full membership of the European Union and North Atlantic Trade Organisation, Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, said at the 14th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

“Our historic place is in the united European family and the transatlantic western alliance. Our vocation is to become the eastern border of the European civilisation. We are heading towards Ukraine’s full membership in the EU and NATO”, said the Ukrainian President.

According to Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s future membership of NATO and the EU is in itself an appropriate guarantee for independence, sovereignty and prosperity. The President welcomes the initiative of Lithuanian partners to introduce a large-scale support programme for Ukraine.

“Ukraine has become the de facto border of a united Europe. Today, we assume again our millenary mission to defend our shared European home from threats that come from the East. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians take arms, not only to defend the freedom and independence of their country, but also the security of Europe as a whole and our shared values. No one in the history of the EU has paid such a high and bloody price for the prospect of being part of the European community”, stressed Petro Poroshenko.

The online stream of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) 14th Annual Meeting will be available online at yes-ukraine.org as well as on the websites of our media partners, in both English and Ukrainian.
