Ukraine is ready to become a large energy supplier to Europe – Rostyslav Shurma

13 September 2022

There is every reason that Ukraine can become a new large supplier of energy to Europe, Ukrainian President’s Office Deputy Head Rostyslav Shurma has said.

“Ukraine can become a large and reliable supplier of energy to Europe. We have enough qualified people and resources to produce energy, we also have the infrastructure available for export of energy.,” Shurma said at the 17th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting "Ukraine: Defending All Our Freedom", organised by YES in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

Shurma also said the other ways in which Ukraine can ensure economic prosperity in through localisation of manufacturing and development of the IT sector.

“We can also concentrate our manufacturing efforts, following China’s example which supplies its goods to the whole world. But the logistics of supply goods from China to Europe is expensive. Ukraine can satisfy a half of Europe’s demand, from processing of agricultural products to wood processing. We have skilled and educated people, we also have access to markets and wonderful domestic logistics which allows to supply goods quickly,” Shurma said.

Another possibility is the IT sector. Because our education is one of the best in the world. We are ready to bring up hundreds and thousands of qualified young people who will be ready to develop their startups and further export goods and services. I believe these three directions can secure our country’s economic future,” Shurma said.
