Many reformers in Ukraine unjustifiably punished in recent years - Roman Nasirov

Ukrainian society has unjustifiably accused and punished reformers, head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, Roman Nasirov, said at the 13th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES).

“What happened two and a half years ago was a call-up of sorts, when some went to the east to protect their country with arms in their hands, whilst others came to Kyiv to take part in government. We admire those who were brave enough to fight against the former administration and introduce changes. Some of them were attacked for this. When we talk about using carrot and stick to make change, it is important to note that some decent people got beaten with these sticks. Sometimes decent people got beaten with sticks because others know how to manoeuvre their way out of trouble,” he said.

According to Nasirov, the State Fiscal Service and other agencies are doing their best to root out corruption and drive reforms.
