7th YES Annual Meeting opens today in Yalta

The 7th Yalta Annual Meeting entitled “Ukraine and the World: Re-Thinking and Moving On”, organized by the Yalta European Strategy (YES) in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, will take place in Livadia Palace from 30 September to 3rd October 2010.

The main topics of this year’s largest non government forum, taking place since 2004 and covering issues on Ukraine’s global integration, include: re-thinking the basic approaches to economics, politics and international relations; discussion of key global challenges and threats, such as climate change, as well as various models of modernizing countries in the context of today’s world.

Speeches delivered by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich and President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski will open the Annual Meeting.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Dominique Strauss-Kahn will engage in a dialogue on the global economy and Ukraine.

William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, will be a special guest at the Yalta Annual Meeting.

International participants of the meeting include top politicians, public figures and experts of the highest level: President of Poland (1995 – 2005), Chairman of the Board of YES Aleksander Kwasniewski; European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Füle; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Carl Bildt; Nabucco Project Adviser Joschka Fischer; former Secretary General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (1999 – 2009) Javier Solana; Member of the Board of YES Marek Siwiec and other.

Ukraine will be represented at the Yalta Annual Meeting by the following panelists: 2nd President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma; Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn; First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Andriy Klyuev; Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Borys Kolesnikov; Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Tigipko; Minister for Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Yuri Boyko; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko; First Deputy Head of Administration of the President of Ukraine Irina Akimova; Head of Working Group for National Projects at the Committee on Economic Reforms Vladislav Kaskiv, Member of Parliament of Ukraine Arsenyi Yatseniuk; president of DCH Group Alexander Yaroslavskiy and other.

During the Annual Meeting there also will be interactive TV-links with participation of the 7th Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan; chief columnist of the Financial Times Martin Wolf and Director of Peterson Institute of International Economics Fred Bergsten, Director of the National Economic Council of the United States Larry Summers.

Among others, the 7th Yalta Annual Meeting will be joined by Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Volodymyr Stelmakh; Head of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Vasyl Dzharty; the Member of Parliament of Ukraine, Head of the Committee on Industrial and Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship Nataliya Korolevska; Member of the European Parliament, Vice President of the European People's Party, YES Board Director Mario David; former Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Hryhory Nemyria; president of Kyivstar company Igor Lytovchenko; Chairman of the Board of Nemiroff Holding Oleksandr Glus; heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine - the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Tefft; Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov; Ambassador of Poland to Ukraine Jacek Kluczkowski; British Ambassador to Ukraine Leigh Turner; Ambassador of the French Republic to Ukraine Jaques Faure; Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Hans-Jürgen Heimsoeth; Ambassador of Austria to Ukraine Wolf Dietrich Heim and other.

In general, over 200 people from more than 20 different countries will take part in the 7th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy.
