European Leaders Should Turn Their Backs on Populism - Mario Monti, former Prime Minister of Italy
Leaders of European states should turn their backs on populism, stated Mario Monti, Prime Minister of Italy (2011-2013), at the 10th Annual Meeting of YES “Changing Ukraine in a Changing World: Factors of Success” in Yalta, on Saturday.
“A huge political problem that is getting in the way of decision making in Europe, is the high degree of populism and mutual accusations between different factions, such as North and South, and different countries,” Mr. Monti said during the discussion “Europe: Destination Unknown”.
The former leader of the Italian government encouraged politicians to think of stability. “I believe that Prime Ministers and Presidents should stop doing the work of their finance ministers and start doing the job they were hired for: working out how to make Europe a more politically stable area,” Mr. Monti stated.
