Democrats need to find a new model for communicating their ideas, Alexander Kwasniewski
15 September 2018

Alexander Kwasniewski, President of Poland (1995-2005) and Chairman of the YES Supervisory Board, said in his closing speech at the 15th Yalta European Strategy (YES) Annual Meeting, that the politicians who promote democratic values need to find a new model of communication with the electorate in order to successfully oppose populists.

“It is not enough to say that we have better values or better democracy. What we need is a new discourse, new communication, new leaders, new confidence, and new connections with the electorate, especially with the new generation. Because everything which is old, in fact, does not work anymore,” he said at the 15th Annual Meeting, themed The Next Generation of Everything” and organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

He added that new methods are needed from within democratic forces in order to evoke change. “I hope that all these positive things will come true when we meet next time at the YES conference in Yalta,” concluded Kwasniewski.
