Ryszard Czarnecki currently is Vice-President of the European Parliament responsible for Eastern Policy and the Eastern Partnership. He is a member of the European Parliament since 2004. His current positions include vice-presidency in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, as well as coordination of the interparliamentary forum with national parliaments of Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Vice-President Czarnecki coordinates the Committee on Budget Control and is instrumental in the Committee on Foreign Affairs. He also is a member of Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee of the European Parliament. In addition, Vice-President Ryszard Czarnecki is a member of the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan and EU-Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia.
Prior to becoming a member of the European Parliament, he occupied the position of the Minister of the European Affairs, Minister without Portfolio and Deputy Minister of Culture and Arts of the Republic of Poland. Born in the UK, he graduated from University of Wroclaw, where he received a master’s degree in history. Mr. Vice-President was awarded high state awards by Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia. He holds a Doctor Honoris Causa of the University in Erevan. Vice-President Czarnecki authored 6 books.
