Arseniy YATSENYUK

Arseniy Yatsenyuk is a Ukrainian politician, economist and lawyer, who served as the Prime Minister of Ukraine from February 2014 to April 2016. For two years in office, Mr. Yatsenyuk’s government stabilized the economy and contained the treat of sovereign default. It managed to restore the alert of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, created the National Guard of Ukraine; their funding has been unprecedentedly increased and sustainably provided. Under Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s leadership, Ukraine became energy independent from Russia: for the first time in its history, Ukraine survived a winter without gas supplies from the Russian “Gazprom.” Natural gas supplies to Ukraine have been diversified. Mr. Yatsenyuk’s government pursued the first stage of the large-scaled economic deregulation, simplifying conditions for the Ukrainian entrepreneurs.
In 2012-2014, he has been one of the leaders of the United Opposition and the Head of “Batkivshchyna”, then largest opposition faction in the Parliament of Ukraine. From 2007 to 2008, Mr. Yatsenyuk served as Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine. Previously, Mr. Yatsenyuk was Minister for Foreign Affairs (2007). Prior to that, Mr. Yatsenyuk held the following positions: First Deputy Chief of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2006-2007); Minister for Economy of Ukraine (2005 – 2006); First Deputy Governor of the Odessa Region (2005); Acting Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (2003-2004); Minister for Economy of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (2001 – 2003); Advisor to the Chairman, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the “AVAL” Joint-Stock Postal Pensionary Bank (1998-2001). Arseniy Yatsenyuk holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Ukrainian Bank Academy. In 2001, he graduated from the Chernivtsi Institute of Trade and Economics of the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, and, in 1996, from Chernivtsi State University’s Department of Law. Mr. Yatsenyuk is married with two daughters.
